Old city metro dream coming true
The metro dream of the old city residents of Hyderabad is about to come true. The wait of 12 years will soon bear fruit. CM Revanth will lay the foundation stone for the construction of the pending 5.5 km metro corridor from Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station (MGBS) to Falaknuma. In fact, when the central and state governments started the metro rail project in 2012, then LBnagar-Miyapur, Nagol-Rayadurgam, JBSA-Falaknuma routes were selected. In addition to the first two corridors, there are currently 57 stations between JBS-MGBS as a part of the third corridor, and 1,028 services are being continued per day. But, the Old City route was not saved. While there is a 15 km route from JBS to Falaknuma, the project has stalled for MGBS. From there, there are 103 religious buildings and prayer halls in the middle of Falaknuma. Congress party has promised to complete the Old City Metro before the assembly elections. As per that promise, CM Revanth Reddy focused on metro expansion in the early days of coming to power. He met with the authorities several times on this issue. In this order, CM Revanth Reddy will lay the foundation stone for the pending works in Old City on 8th of this month. Metro officials explained that this program will be held near Falaknuma Bus Depot. It is said that this corridor will be completed in one and a half years. However.. due to the delay in the construction of this 5.5 km.. due to increased raw materials, the works will cost up to Rs. 2 thousand crores, he said. According to the alignment decided in the first phase, the elevated corridor will be over Darulshifa-Puranihaveli-Kotla Aliza-Haribowli-Salibanda-Shamsherganj-Aliabad, the Metro officials explained. He said there will be stations at Salarjung Museum, Charminar, Salibanda and Falaknuma. He said that measures are being taken to prevent any damage to ancient/heritage buildings and prayer halls. It was mentioned that 1,100 properties had to be acquired for the 120-feet widening of the road to the elevated corridor.
