Sakshi, Hyderabad: In-service teachers are not interested in State Teacher Eligibility Test (TSTET). Teachers with less than five years of service are not coming forward. The government teachers claim that there is no clarity on who will write which paper and there is no time for preparation. Students are asked how they are prepared for conducting annual exams and then elections.


More than 80,000 government teachers who joined the service before 2012 in the state are not eligible for TET. But according to the Right to Education Act.. to get promoted from Secondary Grade Teacher (SGT) to School Assistant (SA) to HM from School Assistant, one has to pass TET. However, the education department sources say that there is a feeling among the teachers that even this promotion is not necessary


Some teachers say that if they get promoted, they will have to move to another area. It is said that it is best to work in the existing area. In the background of TET application process etc.. service teachers are raising many doubts at the education department


Any clarification on the exam?


Teacher sources say that the notification has stated that service teachers should also write TET for professional development. It has not been said that TET is mandatory for promotions. Teachers working in primary schools are DD qualified. They will have to write the paper-1 exam. BED qualification is required to work as school assistants in high schools


They have to write paper-2. SGTs can write Paper-1 only. They cannot write paper-2 because they don't have BED. A situation arises where there is no opportunity to get promoted. They can go as HMs in primary schools. If you get that promotion, you have to go to other schools. The opinion of teachers is that there is not much difference in salary. Apart from that, the teachers unions say that the notification has not given clarity on who should write which paper


No time to prepare?


Many teachers joined as teachers ten years ago. Since then, there have been many changes in BED and DED. Tenth books have changed many times. But teachers are upgraded only in the subject they teach. But to write TET you have to study all the subjects. The TET exams will be held from June 12. The teachers are busy in conducting exams and correcting papers till the end of April. Lok Sabha elections are in the month of May


Teachers have to attend those duties. Teachers say that with this, there will be very few days for Tet preparation. It is said that it is difficult to get qualifying marks in Tet unless you study the subjects which are related to all classes from class I to tenth. In this order, many teachers are not willing to write TET. They are demanding that a special TET should be conducted for teachers and the doubts raised on the issues in the notification should be cleared
