Website for CAA applications

Launched by the Union Home Ministry, the mobile app will also be available soon

New Delhi, March 12: The Union Home Ministry on Tuesday launched a website for those eligible to apply for Indian citizenship under the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA)-2019.


A mobile app named CAA-2019 will also be made available soon to enable application through phones. Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists, Parsis, Christians who immigrated here from Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh before 31 December 2014 can apply for the grant of Indian citizenship through https://indiancitizenshiponline.nic.in. The passport size photograph along with the necessary verification documents have to be uploaded online. Investigating agencies process them after they complete a background check. The application is submitted to the Empowered Committee by the District Level Committee headed by the Designated Officer. As this Act is aimed at undocumented persons, applicants can upload any documents issued by the governments of the countries where they have previously resided (Pak, Afghanistan, Bangladesh).


Documents to be submitted As per CAA rules... Applicants have to give a declaration accepting India as their permanent address along with renouncing their current citizenship in the respective countries. An oath of allegiance is also required. Also they should submit an Eligibility Certificate issued by any recognized local body certifying that they belong to Hindu, Sikh, Jain, Buddhist, Parsi, Christian religions and are currently practicing those religions. In addition to these any one of the following documents can be submitted for citizenship. Passport issued by Government of Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, birth certificate/ any license/ land or tenancy records, study certificates, any other identification document issued by the respective Governments along with any document proving that one of the applicant's parents or grandparents, one of the great-grandparents belong to the respective countries, applicants Any document issued by the respective governments or government agencies will be accepted to confirm origin. The rules state that they will remain valid even if their time limit is exceeded


To prove locality in India...

The applicant has to submit any of these documents to prove his/her entry into India before December 31, 2014. Copy of visa on arrival in India, copies of immigration stamp, certificate issued by elected members of rural and urban bodies or revenue officer, slip issued by enumerators during census in India, driving license, Aadhaar card, ration card, school TC, educational qualification certificates, business license Must be submitted


Citizenship in Retrospective Mode

Union Home Ministry officials have responded to the statement on the MHA website that those who have obtained citizenship under Section-6B of the Citizenship Act-1955 will be treated as citizens of India from the date of their entry into the country. It has been revealed that those who are eligible under CAA will be granted citizenship on a retrospective basis as per the law
