Pingali Venkayya was born to Hanumantraayudu and Venkataratnamma in the village of Bhatlapenumarru in the present Mova Zone near Machilipatnam in Krishna District of Andhra Pradesh. Venkaiah has been a very active student since childhood. He received his primary education at Challapalli and at the Hindu High School in Machilipatnam. After completing his high school education he went to Colombo to do senior Cambridge
National flag bearer Pingali Venkaiah trained in Bombay and went to Africa. Palgo returned from the Boer War and toured Arabia and Afghanistan. From 1911-44 he worked as a lecturer at Port National College. He did his geophysical research and obtained a diploma from the Presidency College, Madras. He lived in Nellore from 1924 to 1944 and did research on mica. He wrote a book on the process of turning coal into diamonds called ‘Motherstone’. In 1916 he authored a book, A National Flag for India. About 30 types of flags are displayed in this book. The tricolor flag was designed by Gandhiji at the Bejwada All India Congress Mahasabha in 1921. According to Gandhi's reference, a spinning wheel was added to it. Financial hardships in old age surround him. He had to live a life of poverty by building a hut on land given by the government in Vijayawada Chittinagar for serving in the military. He never expected any position. But it is unfortunate that the government does not recognize his selfless service. They have built a nation of our own. Those governments respect national flag makers in other countries. Governments provide the facilities they need for free. It is unfortunate that our government does not recognize Venkaiah.
