Sakshi, New Delhi: The much-awaited general election schedule will be released on Saturday. The Central Election Commission will announce the schedule at Vigyan Bhavan in Delhi at 3 pm. Along with Lok Sabha, Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Odisha and Sikkim assembly election schedule will also be announced. It is also likely to announce the by-election schedule for one vacant assembly seat in Telangana. In this regard, the Election Commission issued a press release on Friday

It seems that the elections to the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly are likely to be held in the second or third week of April. As soon as the schedule is released, the Election Code of Conduct (Election Code) will come into force across the country. The term of the current Lok Sabha ends on June 16, and a new assembly has to be formed before that. Last Lok Sabha election schedule was announced on March 10, 2019


Elections were held in seven phases from April 11. The results were declared on May 23. Sources of the Central Election Commission have informed that they expect to complete the Lok Sabha elections in four to five phases this time. There are 97 crore voters across the country. More than 12 lakh polling stations are going to be set up for the general elections


New Election Commissioners who took charge

Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Gyanesh Kumar, who were appointed as the new election commissioners, took charge on Friday. They took charge in the presence of Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar at Nirvachan Sadan in Delhi. Later, a crucial meeting was held with the officials regarding the election schedule. Election preparations, deployment of central forces, coordination with various central government departments and current situation in the respective states were reviewed.
